Bloggin from Vegas

Posted on 18 February 2008 by Calvin Harvey

What’s the deal people I’m blogging from the Las Vegas airport and I’m bored as hell! Some funny smelling man just asked me to turn the music down on my iPhone and I’m not in the mood at all. I’m coming from visiting my two boys in sunny San Dizzle (San Diego, CA) is was a good but sad weekend because I didn’t want to leave them but, I had no choice. Anyway the weather was a wonderful break from the extra cold ass weather in Detroit, MI my hometown where it has been cold as he’ll for the past few weeks. I’m talking low single digits 4 and 5 degrees! Even though it was good to see my boys maybe this wasn’t the best weekend to leave because my “girl” friend thinks I’m going to get back with my soon to be ex-wife. I think that she was kinda pissed but didn’t say anything because I was going to see my boys. I went picture crazy because I didn’t have any recent pictures of my sons so I went spent $200 on pics. I was only supposed to spend $40 dollars but my boys are supermodels and I just couldn’t resist buying all the poses. I was also in the photos and I’m pretty good looking too if you asked me. Anywho I’m done rambling for now I’ll update with pics asap. Peace

Wordpress 2.3.3 Is Available for Download Now!

Posted on 05 February 2008 by Calvin Harvey

Wordpress, has released an urgent security update that everyone should upgrade to ASAP.

If you have registration enabled a flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow a user to edit posts of other users on that blog. In addition to fixing this security flaw, 2.3.3 fixes a few minor bugs. If you are interested only in the security fix, download the fixed version of xmlrpc.php and copy it over your existing xmlrpc.php. Otherwise, you can get the entire release here.

Also, there is a vulnerability in the WP-Forum plugin that is being actively exploited right now. If you are using this plugin, please remove it until an update is available from its author.

Since we are talking security, remember to use strong passwords and change them regularly. While you’re updating WP and your plugins, consider refreshing your passwords.

Why Most Bloggers Will Never Be Successful

Posted on 03 February 2008 by Calvin Harvey

Everyday when I’m on the net reading numerous blogs about making money online or whatever I see many people who will never make more than a few cents. I used to be a statistic too. I think the reason why most people fail at blogging is because they are inconsistent. They posts every blue moon and when those posts come about they are mediocre. So the key is consistency and good content and just be yourself. Quit trying to “Copy Blog”! What I mean by that is trying to copy someone elses niche or their style of blogging. What works for them may not work for you. Plain and simple! I tried to blog how others were blogging and found myself at a loss for words because it wasn’t me at all. I was emulating someone else. That’s why I started my blog back from scratch just barebones with no old posts or anything. Some may say that it was stupid because I had quite a few posts but, I don’t give a f#$%! Those posts didn’t represent me it represented who I was trying to be. It took me like a week to come up with my tag line because I wanted something that really represented who I am not just as a blogger but as a person. I do what I want when I want! I’m in control of my own destiny. If I see something that I want I get it and there’s no one who can stop me. Here’s a few tips that I think help me finally find out what exactly I was going to blog about.

  1. Be yourself damn it! People like uniqueness and what’s more unique than you! There’s only one you so show the world who you are.
  2. Blog about things you like. Don’t just blog about what’s popular. You’ll find that you’ll get more readers because you have something different to say than the rest of the bunch.
  3. Be bold. Don’t be afraid the say what the hell is one your mind.
  4. Be consistent. Set a schedule and stick to it. If your going to post once or twice a make commit to it and do it. If there are some random posts in between that fine but just make sure that you still stick to the schedule that you’ve set for yourself.
  5. And last but not least Monetize your damn blog. You can’t make any money off it if it’s not monetized plain a simple. Like John Chow says in his January Income Report don’t put all your eggs in one basket. He made over $30,000 dollars from his blog in January.

Well I’m thru babbling for now hoped this helped you a little bit. This is Calvin Harvey signing off and I’ll Blog About Whatever the Hell I Want To! Peace.
